6th Annual School Supplies Packing Event

With successfull 5th Annual Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt fundraiser, we will be procuring school supplies for over 1,000 students.
The school supplies will be delivered at Dell Jewish Community Center and on Sunday Aug 13th, volunteers will come to assemble to supplies.
It is a fun event where we have 150 to 200 volunteers aging from 3yr old to seniors. It is a multi-community event.
You will volunteer in lead positions to take inventory of the delivered supplies, arrange the supplies for kitting on tables like assembly line, monitor that fill the tables with supplies as needed, trash boxes, help coordinate the quality of kitting, help load supplies on the school trucks.
It is fun event - we have music and sometimes kids dance to music when done.

Mission Statement
Bridge income disparity in the US through education. PovertyUSA reports: In 2015, 43.1 million people lived in Poverty USA. That means the poverty rate for 2015 was 13.5%. The 2015 poverty rate was 1.0 percentage point higher than in 2007, the year before the 2008 recession. This is the first year in five years that the number of people in poverty has decreased from the previous year’s poverty estimates. Source: U.S. Census Bureau; Income and Poverty in the United States: 2015 HC4A wants to contribute to help those living in poverty to acquire work skills so they can get living wage or better income.
Description
HC4A has has two programs:
1. Annual donation of school supplies homeless children (join project with ShalomAustin)
2. Vocational training scholarships for those living below poverty line.
The school supply program helps shift some of the financial burden from the parents experiencing homelessness.
The vocational scholarships is key to leading to jobs that pay at or above living wages.
Our focus is on vocational training recognizing that degreed course fall out rates are at 47%, it is very costly (some students graduate with large tuition loans), and it takes 4 yrs plus to graduate.
Vocational training takes 6 mos. to 24 mos., cost at fraction of degreed courses. Students learn hands on skills. With these skills, those students with entrepreneurial spirit can even start a business!
