ORGANIZATION: Safehope

The purpose of Assignment:

  • You will be assisting Child Advocates in planned and participating in activities during a weekly support group.

  • Age groups

    • Cubs Club - infant to 4 years old

    • Treehouse Club- 5 years old to 11 years old

    • Teen Group - 12 years old - 17 years old

Tasks:

  • Assists Child Advocate in planning and setup of activity.

  • Assists Child Advocate in maintaining a safe, clean, learning environment and in assuring the well-being and safety of the children in his/her care.

  • Exhibits a genuine nurturing, caring attitude to all children.

  • Participate in activities which may include physical games or sports, arts and crafts and other recreational pursuits.

  • Models appropriate behavior for the children, showing them how to treat other people with kindness and respect and how to play fair.

  • Assists children and Child Advocate in cleaning up activity area.

Training & Supervision:

  • Attends general volunteer orientation

  • Completes support group orientation which includes training on the location of supplies, and facility overview.

  • Supervision conducted by Child Advocates or designated staff

Time Commitment:

  • Support group is held each Thursday 6pm-8pm

Skills Requirements:

  • An ability to relate in a nonjudgmental manner with individuals and groups within a wide range of problem areas.

  • An ability to handle emergency situations.

  • An ability to maintain confidentiality. An ability to work without direct supervision and complete task in an efficient manner.

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a criminal record check

OUR MISSION The Mission of Safehope is to provide advocacy and support to all survivors and secondary victims of domestic and sexual violence and stalking; while seeking social change through awareness, education, and prevention. From 24-hour Help Line to supportive services to professional training, we offer crisis intervention, advocacy, and support; to address the needs of victims and their children.

Description

Safehope, based in Newton, KS, provides advocacy and support to all survivors, and secondary victims of domestic and sexual violence, and stalking in Harvey, Marion, and McPherson counties. Safehope creates a safe environment for survivors to understand the resources and options available to them and get support as they begin to heal from the trauma. Our services are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

We serve those who are survivor/victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and stalking at no charge. Services meet the needs not only of victims seeking emergency shelter but also for outreach victims and their families in our rural service area for crucial outreach services.
