Purpose of Assignment
By assisting with the seasonal landscaping duties for the Safehope ( formerly known as Harvey County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault you help ensure the quality and sustainability outdoor spaces at the safehouse. Volunteers will be creating a safe and beautiful environment for participants staying at the safehouse.
Responsible for helping to mow the shelter yard grass
Edge the grass around driveway areas
Spruce up landscaping by removing debris and trash.
Planting new plants on the ground and/or pots
Spread new mulch in specific areas.
Trimming of bushes at the end of a growing season.
Removal of weeds in flower beds.
Yard maintenance can be scheduled for either a weekday or weekend, daytime or evening.
Training & Supervision:
Attends general volunteer orientation
Completes safehouse orientation which includes training on the location of supplies and facility procedures.
Supervision conducted by: Residential Manager or designated staff
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Able to lift, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods of time.
An ability to relate in a nonjudgmental manner with individuals and groups within a wide range of problem areas.
Be able to operate a lawnmower, weed eater, and all other yard tools.
An ability to handle emergency situations.
An ability to maintain confidentiality.
An ability to work without direct supervision and complete task in an efficient manner.
Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:
Successful completion of a criminal record check
All plants and equipment will be provided.
