Shorting donation of Clothing

The purpose of Assignment:

  • Assists Safehope (Formerly known as Harvey County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Task Force, Safehouse) staff in maintaining a clean and organized Clothing Clothes and Household items storage area.

Task:

  • Assist in sorting through bags and boxes of donated items;

  • Assist staff in maintaining established standards of quality and distinguishing between discarded and good quality items according to Safehope standards.

    • We ask that the condition of all donations be "something you would give a friend"

  • Organizing and placing donated items in designated area.

Time Commitment:

  • Long term or one time work day event.

  • First and third Saturday of each month for 10am-noon

Skills requirements:

  • The volunteer opportunity requires moderate physical stamina and strength: standing and walking about for periods of two to three hours; lifting, moving, and sorting through boxes and bags filled with donated clothing and other items, etc.

  • The performance of the job requires frequent safety awareness, concentration while maneuvering furniture and other donations.

Training & Supervision:

  • Completes Donation Sorting orientation which includes training on the location of supplies, and facility overview.

  • Supervision conducted by designated staff or volunteer

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:

  • Background Check for ongoing Safehope Volunteer

Additional Information:

  • Work Day events can be done by groups minors with an adult leader.

  • All required supplies will be provided.

From 24-hour Help Line to supportive services to professional training, we offer crisis intervention, advocacy, and support; to address the needs of victims and their children.

Description

Safehope, based in Newton, KS, provides advocacy and support to all survivors, and secondary victims of domestic and sexual violence, and stalking in Harvey, Marion, and McPherson counties. Safehope creates a safe environment for survivors to understand the resources and options available to them and get support as they begin to heal from the trauma. Our services are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

We serve those who are survivor/victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and stalking at no charge. Services meet the needs not only of victims seeking emergency shelter but also for outreach victims and their families in our rural service area for crucial outreach services.
