Work from Tahoma Audubon Conservation Committee members has been key in such projects as the preservation of Clover Creek and the ongoing fight to preserve the Park Junction Property near Mt. Rainier. Historically, the Tahoma Audubon worked to preserve land that later became Swan Creek, Snake Lake, and China Lake parks.
Our Conservation committee needs people who have an interest in:
- Writing letters to public officials
- Lobbying public officials
- Writing and editing our monthly newsletter,
- Researching political issues to inform our advocacy work
- Gardening skills for restoring local wildlife areas
- Bird watching to create maintain bird and plant inventory
- Leadership skills to coordinate strategy on long-term political issues
Our issues and projects are focused on:
- Limiting Global warming
- Limiting suburban sprawl
- Restoring wildlife habitat
To forward these goals we:
- Lobby Pierce county council
- Use Growth Management and Shoreline Management acts to create environmental friendly policies
- Hold restoration work parties at parks and other undeveloped land in Pierce County
Our focus is preserving working farms, working forests, open space and creating livable cities by developing more local parks and natural area and connecting them with sidewalks & bikelanes.
Work parties: We restore urban wildlife areas in the county and need gardeners for work parties in maintaining and restoring several sites in the Chambers / Clover Creek Watershed (Spanaway, Frederickson, and Lakewood.)
Monthly Meeting are held via Zoom the third Wednesday of each month, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
