New Shelves
Safehope Staff love the new shelves installed by a volunteer

The purpose of Assignment:

  • Assists Harvey County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Staff in maintaining a clean and organized Clothing Clothes and Household items storage area.

Task:

  • Provide general facility repairs, including painting and drywall.

  • Replace light bulbs and perform simple electrical repairs.

  • Perform basic carpentry repairs.

  • May perform minor plumbing repairs and replace washers and hardware.

  • May assist with window washing.

  • Perform misc. duties as assigned.

Time Commitment:

  • 1-2 hours per month as needed

Skills requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Prefer previous experience in construction.

  • Must have basic knowledge of construction materials, methods, and practices.

  • Must have the willingness to perform basic construction and repair duties.

  • Must be able to interact well with staff and participants.

  • Ability to follow safety standard or instruction, verbally and in writing.

  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.

  • An ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • An ability to work without direct supervision and complete task in an efficient manner.

Training & Supervision:

  • Attends general volunteer orientation

  • Completes safehouse orientation which includes training on the location of supplies and facility procedures.

  • Supervision conducted by Residential Manager or designated staff

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a criminal record check

OUR MISSION The Mission of Safehope is to provide advocacy and support to all survivors and secondary victims of domestic and sexual violence and stalking; while seeking social change through awareness, education, and prevention. From 24-hour Help Line to supportive services to professional training, we offer crisis intervention, advocacy, and support; to address the needs of victims and their children.

Description

Safehope, based in Newton, KS, provides advocacy and support to all survivors, and secondary victims of domestic and sexual violence, and stalking in Harvey, Marion, and McPherson counties. Safehope creates a safe environment for survivors to understand the resources and options available to them and get support as they begin to heal from the trauma. Our services are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

We serve those who are survivor/victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and stalking at no charge. Services meet the needs not only of victims seeking emergency shelter but also for outreach victims and their families in our rural service area for crucial outreach services.
