Do you have a passion for helping others? Do you cherish elders and their treasure trove of experiences? Are you looking for a way to connect and give back to your community? If so, consider volunteering with the Legacy Corps program!
Their stories are not unique: A wife providing round-the-clock care for her husband who has Parkinson's Disease; a daughter juggling her father's VA appointments while still working full-time; a husband who lovingly bathes and dresses his wife, although she no longer remembers his name. Family caregivers comprise over 40,000 of our friends, neighbors, and fellow residents of the Treasure Valley. More often than not, these unsung heroes provide 24/7 care for their loved ones without a break. Legacy Corps wants to change that. Our volunteers provide 2-4 hours of companionship respite each week, giving family caregivers an opportunity to take care of themselves. Volunteers do not assist with personal care needs. If you have the desire to help others, listen to stories, provide your support to a family, or simply share your heart and a smile, we have many opportunities for you to shine. If you know someone who might like this opportunity, please pass it on.
AmeriCorps positions also available, providing opportunities to earn an education award (great gifts for your children or grandchildren!), monthly living allowance and in depth training and support.
Legacy Corps is a non-profit, collaborative organization dedicated to supporting family caregivers. Programs are powered by highly trained and vetted volunteers committed to their service. Programs include educational workshops, annual family caregiver conference, and companionship respite. Respite services are provided through Ameri Corps volunteers dedicated to the unique needs of veteran and military family caregivers.
Legacy Corps is actively recruiting volunteers to join our team. Our Non-AmeriCorps team is open to additions at any time after an interview, background check, and training. The 2018-2019 AmeriCorps team is an elite team, offering stipend positions, receiving extensive training and support, and an education award at completion of one year of service. New Volunteer Orientation for the 2018-2019 AmeriCorps team is scheduled for November 2018. The Non-AmeriCorps team offers New Volunteer Orientation throughout the year.
