Hikers often leave behind water bottles, candy wrappers, and orange peels. Litter not only detracts from the beauty of our natural world, but also endangers wildlife. Help us keep Sam’s Point clean and beautiful by keeping our park litter free! On Saturday July 15, 2017 Sam’s Point will be hosting a garbage pickup in the park from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Enjoy a Saturday in the park with your family making a difference! This event is recommended for ages 8 and up, accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. Meet at the Sam’s Point Visitor Center at 9 a.m. with water, snacks, and sturdy hiking shoes! Pre-registration is required for this event.

Description
The Sam's Point Preserve, located on the highest section of the Shawangunk Mountains, is the most southerly section of Minnewaska State Park Preserve . The area comprises approximately 5,000 acres, and contains a globally rare community of high altitude pitch pine barrens. The pitch pine barrens, and the matrix of chestnut oak forest that surrounds them, provide habitat for abundant flora and fauna, both rare and common.
