ORGANIZATION: Planned Parenthood of St. Paul

General Description: Working directly with the Grassroots Organizer and Public Affairs Manager, the Organizing and Advocacy Intern will coordinate many of the grassroots and outreach tactics of the department, including but not limited to volunteer support, event planning, digital organizing, research, and data management.

Specific Duties:
* Attend a minimum of one phonebank, canvass, or community event a week
* Help Manage Volunteers
* Help with volunteer recruitment
* Communicate updates with volunteers
* Work with volunteer leadership group to identify and train new leaders
* Assist in development and management of the digital action response team
* Assist with program management
* Track goals, volunteer attendance, and events
* Help develop tools and resources to assist advocacy efforts
* Perform data management

Skills Gained:
1. Develop transferable skills for work in political campaigns, issue advocacy, grassroots organizing and volunteer management
2. Develop understanding of and proficiency with operations of a 501c3 and 501c4 nonprofit
3. Become proficient with organizing software - Convio, Voter Activation Network, Predictive dialer
4. Experience with volunteer supervision
5. Serve integral role in insuring access to reproductive healthcare
Qualifications: * Interest in the political aspect of reproductive rights and a commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission
* Must be willing to take on new and different projects, including but not limited to what’s listed above
* Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Must be comfortable talking to strangers.
* Incredibly reliable, great attention to detail, and able to work independently

Hours & Commitment:
The Organizing and Advocacy Intern should be able to commit to 8-10 hours per week from our Vandalia & University Health Center, with occasional travel to other locations within the metro area. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends.

Compensation:
Unpaid. College credit available per your institution’s guidelines. Work-related travel and expenses will be reimbursed.
