  • Reading and analysing the script

  • Compiling found images into a collage book which will be used during production meetings
  • Attending briefing sessions
  • Drawing sketches and designs
  • Creating authentic-looking props
  • Defining the shopping list for making the props
  • Experimenting with a variety of materials such as wood, plastic, metal or fabric
  • Using specialist machinery and tools such as soldering irons and electric drills
  • Coordinating the look of different props
  • Adjusting props after rehearsals according to the stage manager’s notes
  • Repairing props
  • Working in collaboration with the rest of the production team
  • Respecting health and safety regulations

Mission Statement

1. Increase awareness of ethnic cultures and art forms, especially Indian (Asian) art forms of Dance Music and Theatre. 2. Impart quality training to members within and outside the community in Indian Music, Dance and Theatre by imbibing classical, folk and contemporary style. 3. Promote and participate in enhancement of cross-ethnic cultural collaborations by means of performances, workshops, and lectures & demonstrations. 4. Create and implement educational programs for schools students. Surati's mission is to educate and enrich communities globally in the diverse arts and cultural heritage of India through classes, events, performances, educational projects, workshops and lectures-demonstrations.

Description

Surati is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit performing arts and education organization whose mission is to promote Indian art and culture, educate and enrich the community primarily through dance, music, theatre, arts and crafts. Surati, based in, Jersey City, New Jersey, brings to its audience, quality stage performances, events, educational projects, classes, lectures and workshops. Surati’s team of professional dancers, musicians and instructors perform at corporate, fund raiser, community and cultural events throughout the U.S. and abroad and imparts quality training to its students.
