Volunteer Jean Hicks
After each support group meal, leftovers are packaged for families to take home.

Purpose of Assignment:

  • You will be preparing a meal for Harvey County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assualt Safehouse Support Group on Thursday evenings.

Task

  • Prepare a meal for around 30 families.

  • Serve meal to family cafeteria style.

  • Package food for families to take home

  • Clean kitchen after meal (checklist in place)

  • Make sure all families get a box with food to take home.

  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude to all staff and families.

Training & Supervision:

  • Attends general volunteer orientation

  • Completes support group orientation which includes training on the following items: location of supplies and overview of the facility.

  • Supervision conducted by designated staff or volunteer

Time commitment

  • Thursday evening meal preparation begins at 3:30
  • Thursday evening meal is served at 5 pm

  • Clean up and packaging of food begins at 6:45 pm

  • "Take home" meal pick up is at 7:30

  • Volunteers and Staff leave by 8 pm

Skills requirement:

  • Ability to practice safe kitchen standards.

  • Ability to take directions and willingness to learn.

  • Must be able to relate in a non-judgmental manner with individuals and groups within a wide range of problem areas.

  • Must be able to handle emergency and crisis situations.

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a criminal record check.

From 24-hour Help Line to supportive services to professional training, we offer crisis intervention, advocacy, and support; to address the needs of victims and their children.

Description

Safehope, based in Newton, KS, provides advocacy and support to all survivors, and secondary victims of domestic and sexual violence, and stalking in Harvey, Marion, and McPherson counties. Safehope creates a safe environment for survivors to understand the resources and options available to them and get support as they begin to heal from the trauma. Our services are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

We serve those who are survivor/victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and stalking at no charge. Services meet the needs not only of victims seeking emergency shelter but also for outreach victims and their families in our rural service area for crucial outreach services.
