Students of the Year is a seven-week fundraising competition for high school students in the Palm Beach Area. High school students may apply or be nominated, to become a Students of the Year candidate.
Once selected by our nomination committee, student(s) will form a team to raise money for LLS' mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The student(s) who raise the most money at the end of the seven weeks will earn a $2,500 SCHOLARSHIP to the college/university of their choice.
This youth initiative is a leadership development and philanthropy program that ensures students stand out among their peers when engaging with colleges and/or future employers. Students work with LLS staff and past candidates to set goals and execute fundraising strategies. They rally their communities, schools, and families to support their fundraising efforts. Not only will the students help to raise funds for our mission, they will also gain leadership skills, community service hours, networking, and resume building for college.
Leukemia is the number one killer of children under the age of 20; therefore participants are helping kids battling these devastating cancers. Candidates raise money in honor of a patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer.
At the end of the campaign, there is a Grand Finale Celebration on Friday, March 6th, to celebrate everyone’s successes and announce The Student(s) of the Year.

Mission Statement
The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. We work tirelessly to find cures and ensure patients can access the lifesaving treatments they need. When someone experiences the fear and uncertainty of a blood cancer diagnosis, we provide hope, compassion, education and support. Our impact is felt beyond blood cancer. The breakthrough treatments we helped advance for blood cancers are now improving the lives of people affected by many types of cancer.
Description
Volunteers are our partners in the crusade to end cancer.
In 2017, LLS volunteers made a significant impact while selflessly dedicating their time and talent to achieve our mission. With countless ways to engage, from fundraising to providing patient support, our volunteers are changing the landscape of cancer.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Palm Beach Area Chapter was founded in 1975 to serve residents who have been touched by one of the blood cancers: leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. The chapter serves Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, Glades, Hendry, Highlands & Okeechobee counties.
