Every weekday, including holidays, Kansas City Community Kitchen (KCCK) serves a freshly prepared lunch "restaurant style" to anyone who comes. YES, we are serving meals on the 4th of July! Volunteers are the restaurant staff, taking on the roles of wait staff, hosts, beverage station and bussers, to give our guests a great dining experience. Put on your red, white and blue and come play restaurant with us! We promise you'll be done with plenty of time to get to family cookouts and fireworks.
Please arrive by 10:30 am for training before service begins at 11. Volunteers are asked to help clean up at the end, but If everyone pitches in, clean up can be done quickly and everyone will be out by 2:30 pm, with plenty of time for family picnics and fireworks all night.
All volunteers are also given lunch while you're serving - it's the least we can do to say thank you for sharing your time with us and our guests love to see that we all eat the same food. It's really delicious! We'll just ask that you wait until things aren't as busy to sit a couple at a time, allowing other volunteers to be available to serve any guests coming in.
All volunteers must be at least 10 years old (ages 10-13 need to be with a parent/responsible adult with no more than 2 kids per adult) and come wearing closed toe shoes, shirts with sleeves and long pants/capris per health codes. We also recommend bringing a ball cap to cover your head (otherwise you get a glamorous hair net). Learn more at http://bit.ly/NourishVol

Description
NourishKC, formerly known as Episcopal Community Services, specializes in a unique blend of food related programs.
The Kansas City Community Kitchen provides more than 1500 restaurant-style meals each week to anyone who comes to eat. Our Food Security Network supplies thousands more meals per year through a network of food pantries, BackSnack programs and other meal programs around the metro. Perhaps what makes us most unique is our Culinary Cornerstones training program which provides individuals an opportunity to learn life skills as well as culinary skills, giving them a chance to get a living wage job that will provide them with food access for the long term.
