At the Save the Bay Swim 500 swimmers traverse 1.7 miles from Newport to Jamestown to raise money and awareness for Save The Bay. Volunteers are needed to support this event!
This team will start off by assisting with unloading kayaks and directing cars at the kayak drop-off area. Once the Swim begins, you will be in and out of the water (knee to thigh high), collecting athlete pinnies from all of the kayakers that come in off the water from the event. You will need to take the pinnies to the check out table for our staff to mark off that the kayaker has made it to land safely. You will then need to give a Participant Shirt to the kayaker.
All Jamestown volunteers will also help with beach setup and breakdown.
PLEASE NOTE: It is about a 5-10 minute walk from the parking area to volunteer check-in.
We have many volunteer roles at The Swim! To view the full list, visit http://savebay.galaxydigital.com/aem/general/event/?doc_id=4000

About Save The Bay
Location:
100 Save the Bay Drive, Providence, RI 02905, US
Mission Statement
Save The Bay protects, restores and improves the ecological health of the Narragansett Bay region, including its watershed and adjacent coastal waters, through an ecosystem-based approach to environmental action; defends the right of the public to use and enjoy the Bay and its surrounding waters; and fosters an ethic of environmental stewardship among people who live in or visit the Narragansett Bay region.
Description
Save The Bay was founded on the community's desire to protect our most precious resource - Narragansett Bay. To do that, Save The Bay has focused on the development of a committed constituency for the Bay. Children and adults throughout this region have learned the tremendous value the Bay brings to our economy, our environment and our quality of life.
In defense of Narragansett Bay and its watershed, Save The Bay has watched over the activities and programs of the government and the citizenry that degrade the environmental quality of the Bay, basin, and watershed. Save The Bay provides educational opportunities for children and adults to explore the Bay, fostering a understanding and a sense of personal responsibility for the resource.
