Pull invasive species at Pine Bend Bluffs SNA

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Friends of the Mississippi River

Join Friends of the Mississippi River on Thursday, July 20th from 6-8 PM, as we return to protect Pine Bend Bluffs Scientific & Natural Area (SNA), an award-winning restoration site known for some of the best views of the Upper Mississippi River. Working with FMR Lead Ecologist Karen Schik and FMR staff, volunteers will remove spotted knapweed and hoary alyssum, two invasive species encroaching on the native prairie. Minnesota's native bees and local wildlife depend on this rare habitat.

As always, training, gloves, tools and guidance will be provided. Volunteers should be aware, however, that an SNA is not your average park; there are no paved trails, pavilions or other facilities on site.

Preregistration is required, as capacity is limited. To learn more, including registration details, visit us at http://fmr.org/events/2017/07/20/pull-invasive-species-pine-bend-bluffs-sna

Registration closes end of the day on Wednesday, July 19th

Mission Statement

Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) engages people to protect, restore and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities region.

Description

Friends of the Mississippi River is proud to work with roughly 3,000 volunteers annually.

We keep volunteering simple, fun and satisfying -- there are no applications, and you can sign up for one event or several. We list events especially in need of volunteers here on VolunteerMatch.com, but maintain a full calendar of 60+ events a year at www.fmr.org/events.

Our project work includes conservation and restoration of natural areas and habitat, education on watershed protection issues, and organizing activities that connect the public to the Mississippi River.
