We are currently seeking a Grant Writer volunteer to assist us in exploring more funding options. If you have current or past grant writing skills including but not limited to; research, preparation and submission of grant proposals and letters of inquiry, including writing, proofreading, editing and creating compelling narratives for funding applications, we need you! We are planning beautiful events for the DC, MD and VA public for our 10 year anniversary but we need help to raise $30,000-$50,000 to produce these events in Spring 2018. Writer(s) will receive commission based on grants received.

For the past nine years, Abadá-Capoeira DC CAPOEIRA has been the DC Metro Area's leader in the promotion of Capoeira (pronounced ka-poo-eyh-rah), an Afro-Brazilian martial art and self-defense discipline that brings together fighting techniques, acrobatics, dance, percussion, and songs, in a rhythmic dialogue of body, mind, and spirit. Capoeira is such an important art expression that it is part of the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Abada-Capoeira is represented throughout Brazil and in over 50 countries preserving, developing, and sharing the art of Capoeira with integrity and respect and seeking to inspire and empower people to realize their full potential as responsible, confident, productive members of society.

The mission of Abada-Capoeira DC is to promote, spread, and support Brazilian arts and culture through the practice of Capoeira, and to use our practice of Capoeira and associated arts to build a healthy and more closely connected Washington, DC-area community. We are organized to accomplish charitable and educational goals including working to lessen socio-economic inequality. We serve the community with performances, educational and charitable activities, and we offer classes at a below-market rate. Additionally, we regularly hold clothing, food & coat drives, participate in blood donation drives, VDOT & MDOT adopt-a-road street cleaning and many other community involvement activities. Abada-Capoeira DC has been awarded the BEST of Rockville Art Program and 1st Runner up at the BEST of DC for Arts and Cultural Non Profit in 2017.
