Our Library is looking for a retired or current teacher, diagnostician, speech language pathologist, occupational therapist or social worker to be available as a resource to parents at our children's programs.
Quite frequently Library staff are asked questions about a child's development that are outside our expertise. We know that connecting children with early intervention resources or other services can greatly effect that child's future success. In an effort to support our families we would like to have a highly-skilled volunteer available to assist them.
Ideally, a volunteer would commit to regularly attending storytime, babygarten or LEGO club as an identified resource professional. This volunteer would need to be comfortable introducing themselves to parents, conversing with them and their children informally and recommending resources that would help parents care for their children's needs. You would not be required to do formal assessments or evaluations.
