We have a supply of lovely beads and findings that adults who are waiting for the Friday food distribution can use to make a bracelate, earrings or necklace that they can take home, but it would help to have someone with experience in making jewelry at the table to help out.

Background: We call Fridays "Bonus Friday" because anyone can come to CES to get produce and baked goods. We don’t ask for any identification, and people can come every week. The food distribution starts at 1 pm, but clients show up early and just wait and that can be pretty boring.

The ladies who come to Bonus Friday have limited English but are very nice. You don't need to explain much, just demonstrate how the different closure techniques. The jewelry program is from noon to about 1:30.

Even volunteering for one Friday would be helpful, and if you speak Spanish-that would be great!!

Mission Statement

Community Emergency Service transforms lives by serving neighbors, sharing resources and becoming community - a place where people come hungry and leave hopeful.

Description

Community Emergency Service is a multi-service non-profit organization that runs a number of food based assistance programs for Minneapolis residents. Our main programs include: Food Shelf, Meals on Wheels, Home Delivery, Bonus Friday Distribution, and East African Food Distribution.

CES is located within one of the most diverse, densely populated neighborhoods in Minneapolis; over 20,000 people live within its boundaries. 46% of families living in the Phillips neighborhood are below the federal poverty level.

At CES, we strive to serve all our neighbors in need without distinction or test. We invite support from volunteers and donors and are open to collaboration with other agencies, regardless of religious affiliation.

Will you help us move people from hunger to hope?
