The position of volunteer resource librarian consists of the following tasks:

Keeping track of and re-stocking all resources, including community senior agencies, Michigan Medicine programs, caregiver information, hearing loss and vision loss resources, health issues, nutritional information, memory loss and other areas of information.

  1. Researching new information and making a decision with staff whether to display it.

  2. Keeping in touch with the Ann Arbor District Library regarding their caregiver and older adult collection, updating and printing their bibliography of these topics for use, and recommending purchases of new information.

  3. Keeping lists of all materials displayed and the contacts for ordering materials.

  4. Time spent: flexible, according to library needs and volunteer interest.

  5. Supervision: Assistant Director of Turner Senior Wellness Program

Description

The Turner Senior Wellness Program offers an array of high quality, low cost programs and resources:

  • Wellness programs such as healthy living presentations, exercise, healthful cooking demonstrations, Senior Nutrition Program (lunch 2 days a week), and blood pressure screening.
  • Services such as Medicare and Medicaid counseling and assistance with Advance Directives offered weekly.
  • Support groups for caregiving, diabetes, low-vision, and more.
  • Social and cultural activities including a therapeutic writing group, weekly open bridge, chess, mah-jongg and special events.
  • A Caregiver Resource Center located in the lobby with contact information for local agencies and organizations as well as a lending library on a variety of topics related to caregiving.
  • Gallery 55+ exhibiting art created by gifted artists aged fifty-five and older. New artists display their work four times a year. The gallery welcomes community members of any age to view the art and to participate in special gallery events as they are scheduled. Stop in and enjoy the artwork!
