Tribal Resilience VISTA position at American Indian Community Housing Organization (AICHO)

The Enterprise Rural and Native American Initiative has a three year grant to work with Tribal and community partners to create, healthy, safe, green, affordable housing and to increase opportunities for economic advancement for individuals and families. The RNAI is implementing a Culture and Climate Resiliency AmeriCorps VISTA Program to help tribal/urban programs build capacity and to mitigate climatic impacts on housing in a culturally appropriate and responsive manner. The American Indian Community Housing Organization is located in Duluth, Minnesota. AICHO is partnering with local agencies, the mission is to develop, construct and maintain safe, affordable housing for eligible tenants.

Member Duties : The VISTA would work with American Indian Community Housing Organization to develop rooftop gardens and additional affordable housing units in the community of Duluth. The VISTA would work with the Executive Director to raise funds, research best practices, develop community events and implement an evaluation process. Because of these efforts it is expected that the community will benefit by having solar electric arrays, rain water collection and composting systems. Additionally, 9 affordable workforce housing units will be developed, including an eco laundry, and a coffee shop/art gallery.
