ORGANIZATION: Hillsborough Education Foundation

The Hillsborough Education Foundation is seeking mentors in Hillsborough County for the 2018-2019 school year. The Hillsborough Education Foundation provides scholarships and mentors for over 400 low-income students between 6th and 12th grade in the county through the Take Stock in Children program.

Become a caring mentor for a student and make a difference in a child's life today! Mentoring helps students succeed, achieve, and graduate from school. The role of a mentor is to provide a listening ear, valuable guidance, and academic assistance to help students experience greater success. Your guidance can help build a foundation of basic values and challenge students to take responsibility for their own actions. They can start to set goals and understand the importance of staying in school.

Volunteers must be able to meet weekly with the assigned student on school grounds during school hours (7:30am-3:00pm.)

As students begin to realize that someone cares, school absenteeism decreases, academic performance improves and self-esteem increases. Studies show that high-risk students with a mentor are: 46% more likely to stay drug-free 27% more likely to stay alcohol-free 62% more likely not to skip school 37% more likely to avoid violence.

We are actively looking for mentors in the Plant City area to mentor at-risk students in our program.

You can help change a student’s life.

About Hillsborough Education Foundation

Location:

2306 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33607, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to strengthen public education in Hillsborough County through advocacy, investment of resources and programs that empower every student to achieve both academic and personal success.

Description

Hillsborough Education Foundation is dedicated to deepening our impact on students and teachers to ensure every student receives a high-quality education. We are particularly focused on creating equity and leveling the playing field in our highest needs schools. Together with our partners, we are investing in a prosperous future for our community.

Our work centers around making an impact, engaging our community to invest in education and ensuring our teachers have the necessary resources to provide all students with an equal opportunity to graduate and achieve success. By strengthening public education, we strive to build a better community to positively impact the lives of individual teachers and students, regardless of background or economic status.

We pride ourselves in collaborating with our supporters to ensure your gifts are used in the most impactful way possible. For every dollar our partners invest, 92 cents is used directly for programs supporting teachers and students. It is due in part to our dedication to be responsible stewards of donors’ contributions that we have earned a 4 Star Charity rating from Charity Navigator.

As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the Foundation provides Hillsborough County Public Schools with funding that is typically more flexible than restricted tax dollars. The funding and extra resources for the students, teachers, and schools helps to cover the gap that exists between what school budgets can cover, and what is needed to ensure the academic success of our students.
