Honor a veteran by being a companion. Veteran volunteers who work with terminally ill Veterans have many distinct advantages in caring for and supporting these Veterans. The unique military training and skill set that Veteran volunteers bring to their hospice work is invaluable. The common language, terminology, cultural bond, and similar codes of conduct and honor allow for the perfect gateway to be opened between Veteran Volunteers and Veterans being cared for by hospice. A level of trust is established, which will allow for Veterans to feel more at ease with the various levels of care that the Veteran Volunteer offers. We need YOU!

As a partner of We Honor Veterans, Transitions LifeCare aims to pair volunteers with hospice patients who have been identified as Veterans. Once paired with hospice patients who also have military experience, veteran volunteers have the unique ability to relate and connect with each patient, thereby creating an environment where life review and healing may occur. Veteran volunteers are an extension of the Patient Care volunteer position, and should follow those guidelines and practices. Veteran volunteers will receive additional training specific to volunteering with veteran patients.

About Transitions LifeCare Hospice

Location:

6310 E 102nd St, Tulsa, OK 74136, US

Mission Statement

Compassionate care, serving humanity and supporting hope.

Description

Transitions LifeCare Hospice provides hospice services in patients’ homes, residential facilities and hospital rooms. We do not require our patients to have a caregiver in their home. Our team of hospice professionals will work together in delivering care which meets the unique needs of each patient and family. Every plan of care includes the commitment of our team; inclusive of a physician, a nurse, a social worker, and a spiritual care counselor. With the care and support of this dedicated team, the loneliness of illness can be lessened. In addition, hospice can provide care which supports the patient’s personal dignity through care provided by certified hospice aides, dietary counseling, physical therapy, speech therapy and/or occupational therapy.

A Hospice volunteer is one of the most valuable members of the Transitions LifeCare Hospice Team. Hospice volunteers come from all walks of life and age groups. A volunteer may have been a spouse or family member of a former patient. They may be in high school, college, or any other area of life. In some cases, a volunteer is a former hospice patient!
