Volunteers Needed to Work with Seniors

AHC Inc. is among the largest developers of affordable and mixed-income housing in the Washington-Baltimore metro region. Since its founding 40 years ago in Arlington, VA, AHC Inc. has developed nearly 7,000 quality affordable homes to help families and individuals build stable lives and strong futures. As the need for affordable housing has grown, AHC Inc. has expanded beyond our Arlington roots to also serve communities in Montgomery County, Baltimore, Washington, DC, Alexandria and Fairfax County. We provide homes for more than 18,000 people. Each year, our Resident Services program supports thousands of children, families and senior citizens through on-site programs. Our continued growth could not have happened without our many dedicated and enthusiastic supporters, donors, volunteers, community groups, and business and government partners.

Currently, AHC operates three apartment communities for senior citizens. All provide programs and staff to help residents age in place successfully. Activities include exercise classes, arts and crafts, nutrition and wellness programs and access to libraries, continuing education and cultural excursions.

The Senior Adult Programs exist to:

• Decrease isolation among senior residents by providing activities that encourage frequent, positive social interactions
• Enable aging in place by providing educational and social programs and services directly, or by linking seniors to available services in the community.

Volunteer Opportunities:

• Work one on one with seniors in Silver Spring, MD on money management or financial literacy;
• Lead the facilitation of an arts and crafts class; supplies will be provided;
• Work one on one with seniors on technology proficiency; using a smartphone or tablet, using a computer, Microsoft Office Suite, creating a social media account;
