Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC), a nonprofit that embraces and empowers children of incarcerated parents, has slots for marathon runners on our 10-person team. ABOUT CPNYC

CPNYC is a community-based organization in Brooklyn working to ensure children left behind by prisoners are empowered to break the cycle of intergenerational incarceration and imagine futures bigger and brighter than their current circumstances. All funds raised will go directly toward program support and much needed therapeutic supplies and interventions.

Mission Statement

Children of Promise, NYC is a community-centered organization that partners with children and families impacted by mass incarceration to dismantle the stigma and heal from the trauma plaguing Black and Brown communities.

Description

CPNYC’s mentoring program, Project DREAM (Developing Responsible, Excellent, and Awesome Minds), matches participants ages 8-18 with one-to-one mentors for a minimum of one year. Mentors are screened and trained, as part of the agency’s larger mission to break the cycle of intergenerational incarceration. Project DREAM offers mentoring matches the opportunity to participate in trips and activities which build the mentoring relationship. Each mentor receives extensive training and support, on an on-going basis and each child in the program receives mental health counseling, academic support and interventions, and opportunities to participate, with their mentor, in recreational and educational activities and outings.
