The mission of the Oxnard Public Library is to enrich the lives of our diverse community by providing free and equal access to the resources, services, and programs that encourage life-long learning and lead to future success.

VolunTeens help fulfill the library’s mission while gaining valuable work experience that will prepare teens for future employment. VolunTeens assist with programming and routine library support. All VolunTeens work under the direction of the Volunteer Coordinator and the Young Adult Librarian.

Colonia Branch 1500 Camino del Sol #26

Responsibilites:

  • Assist library staff with program preparation, setup and breakdown

  • Aid in on-going projects and routine library support such as discarding and donations

  • Distribute Summer Reading Program literature and prizes to children, teens, and adults

  • Perform duties assigned by supervisor(s) in a timely manner

Skills/Requirements:

  • Hours are flexible depending upon youth's schedule. A 1 hour commitment a week is required.

  • Be reliable and punctual in order to fulfill the volunteer commitment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing or verbally

  • Perform volunteering duties in a thoughtful and courteous manner

Training and Support:

  • The library staff takes great pride in offering this program and supports VolunTeens efforts to serve their community. Each volunteer will attend an orientation before beginning as a VolunTeen. The orientation covers library protocol, expectations, and dress code.
