The Missouri History Museum’s Young Friends Steering Committee is seeking dynamic individuals in their 20s, 30s and 40s to join us! We plan, direct, organize and execute fun and innovative events to attract new Museum visitors and provide financial support for future exhibits.
Members of the Steering Committee serve as ambassadors for the Museum within the St. Louis community and promote the appreciation of and encourage participation in the Museum within the 20s-40s demographic. Your service on the Steering Committee would provide the necessary leadership, drive and creativity the Museum needs to ensure it maintains relevancy in an environment of changing public sentiment and historical interests. Purpose Statement and Expectations
The purpose of the Steering Committee is to raise the Museum’s visibility in the community and assist with fundraising. The Steering Committee is expected to develop future leadership in support of the Museum and lead two large fundraising events per year, along with social events throughout the year to encourage participation in the Museum.
Gain leadership and board experience with a prominent area nonprofit
Meet, socialize and network with other young professionals
Represent the Museum at local functions
Connect with community leaders
Involvement in a cause you are passionate about
Satisfaction that you are making a difference in the Museum’s mission as "the confluence of historical perspectives and contemporary issues to inspire and engage"
Learn about development and fundraising
Be familiar with the Museum’s mission, programs and services in the community
Serve as a Museum ambassador to the community and a connector to those with whom you have a business or personal relationship
Attend Steering Committee meetings once a month
Take an active role by managing a special project or event
Participate in fundraising activities by identifying potential donors and attending and supporting special event fundraisers
Make a meaningful, personal financial contribution to the Museum
Help recruit other Steering Committee members
Attend one or more of the Museum’s programs per quarter
Areas of Focus
- A Night at the Museum: VIP Concert Experience (annual fall event)
- Trivia Night (annual winter event)
- History on Tap (quarterly events)

The Young Friends of the Missouri History Museum is a FREE add-on to Museum
membership for individuals in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Members who designate
themselves as Young Friends will be invited to and receive discounts on many exciting
social, educational, and networking events and special access to activities, collections
and exhibits. Many of these events are planned exclusively for the group by the Young
Friends Steering Committee and include happy hours, behind-the- scenes or after-
hours gatherings, Battle of the Bands, and Trivia Night.
Whether you’re new in town or a native St. Louisan, the Young Friends provides a
great way to meet new people and connect to the area’s vibrant cultural scene.
