Sexual Trauma Advocate & Resource (STAR) Volunteers are specially trained advocates who respond to the needs of sexual assault victims and their families. Much of this response is done by telephone; however, sometimes volunteers accompany a victim at the hospital.
Commit to at least one year as a volunteer
Be 18 years of age or older
Successfully pass a criminal background check
Successfully complete the initial 10 hour Sexual Assault Trauma Advocate & Resource (STAR) training provided by Rape Crisis Intervention Service (RCIS) as well as attending continued training opportunities periodically each year
Reside within one hour of the Carroll Hospital Center
Have a valid drivers license
Have access to reliable and immediate transportation and phone
Be dependable! STAR Volunteers are responsible for direct client contact and responding to the Rape Crisis Hotline
Be available by phone and respond to hotline calls and accompaniments when scheduled for duty
Agree to abstain from drugs and alcohol when on call

Mission Statement
Our Mission is to provide counseling and support services to people in the community touched by sexual violence and to eliminate sexual violence in Carroll County through education and advocacy.
Description
Our services to the community include a 24 hour hotline, individual and group therapy by licensed therapists, and an educational program reaching over 15,000 students a year. Our current volunteers cover the 24 hour hotline, help with fundraising and community education. Our volunteer group consists of stay-at-home moms, students and working professionals. Our Organization would not exist without help and support of our dedicated volunteers.
