OPENING ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
UN Women United States National Committee is looking for new board members to serve a two-three year term, beginning September, 2017.
About UN Women USNC LA
The purpose of the Greater L.A. Chapter shall be to build an inclusive multi-community-based effort in support of U . S . National Committee for UN Women (also referred to as USNC-UN Women).
As a community-based effort, the Chapter maintains relevance to local women in the community, in a manner that is sustainable, cost-effective and ecologically-responsible.
The Chapter strives to actualize an identifiable connection between local and global concerns put into practice by our programs and advocacy efforts. This includes research, education and advocacy for underserved women and girls
This Chapter endeavors to partner with private and public sectors, not-for-profit organizations and concerned individuals in order to raise awareness and support for UN Women.
As an affiliate of the U . S . National Committee for UN Women, this Chapter also strive to further the U . S . National Committee’s program on behalf of UN Women.
Role of the Board
The Board of Directors is the governance body of the organization, and provides strategic direction to the Executive Director in the areas of programs, finance, and communications. The Board of Directors elects an Executive Committee made up of a President, Secretary, and Treasurer who play a more involved role in the management of the organization. In addition to participating in chapter events, the Board of Directors are expected to take part in board meetings in person or via conference call once per month. Board members are expected to play an active role in the organization, including by developing proposals, fundraising, supporting research and programming, representing the organization at various events, network building, and by participating in the process of approval of major obligations and compensation arrangements.
Composition:
The business of this organization shall be managed by a Board consisting of not less than three (3) and no more than fifteen (15) people of like mind interested in the inclusive and sustainable growth and development of the chapter. All previous Presidents shall be life-long members of the board.
The officers of this organization shall be a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, elected by and from the Board of Directors.
In addition, the board also consists of members composing the advisory council, members at larger and directors of the following committees:
Advancement Committee
Communications Committee
Community Engagement Committee
Advocacy Committee
Internship Program
Selection process:
An online application for interested members of the Board will be available via website.
Applications will be reviewed by Nominating Committee who will then move forward qualified applicants for election.
New Directors, after the fifth year of chapter creation, shall be elected by email or postal mail ballot. Elections will be based on the majority of all votes received.
Ballots shall be sent to all members in good standing no less than 30 days before the date of the annual meeting, with full instructions for reply included.
Ballots must be postmarked by the deadline on the ballot in order to be counted.
The new Directors shall assume full Board Member duties at the next Board meeting.

Qualifications/Interests
Post-secondary education in a related field (women’s studies, sociology, political science, urban studies, criminology, geography, architecture)
Vested interest in building gender inclusive cities
Excellent English language skills
Other language skills an asset
A demonstrable background in fundraising
Experience or knowledge of nonprofit organizations
Must be a member in good standing and have completed 3 months of dedicated work to the Chapter in order to be elected to the Board;
