GED Instruction / Tutoring

Assist students on their educational journey by working on math or language skills in order to advance to the next SPL level on their post-TABE test or to obtain a High-school Equivalency Certificate. This includes one on one instruction with the student, prepared lessons, as well as the opportunity to create specialized lesson plans with your student yourself.

Practice Interviewers

We need practice interviewers to help complete "mock interviews" with the students in order to better prepare them for real world jobs skills and to practice talking about their own skills, presenting their felony, and how to improve their resumes.

Computer Skills Class (night class)

The computer class focuses on Word documents and makes sure that all students know how to format and use basic functions at the end of the class in order to make their own job documents with limited help from others.

Internet Workshop (night class)

The internet workshop ensures that clients know how to manage their way around the internet successfully and safely. This includes printing out maps and bus schedules, creating/sending emails with attachments, google searches, and the ability to fill out online job applications.

Additional Workshops

CEO invites volunteers to specialize in different subject areas by offering small group instruction in the form of workshops. The workshops typically run one hour, and are offered once a week. Workshops can be held in reading, writing, science, social studies, math, resume writing, online job search strategies, budgeting, or other academic, employment, or life skills topic.

Fundraising/Marketing Assistance

Fundraising is an essential element in supporting all of CEO's various programs. Volunteers can aid in fundraising efforts of events, grant writing, corporate sponsorship, as well as marketing. We appreciate and value the creativity and networking abilities of volunteers who work to raise funds and in-kind support.

About Community Educational Outreach

Location:

Mission Statement

Community Educational Outreach (CEO) is a Colorado Front Range non-profit devoted to providing educational resources that target low-income adults who may be at risk of being institutionalized. CEO outreaches to local community correction, drug rehabilitation, and community based facilities in an effort to help clients remain productive members of society.

Description

CEO offers traditional and "student-centered" instructional services while aiming to meet the diverse needs of students by providing individual and small-group instruction. CEO instructors and volunteers assist learners improve literacy in Adult Basic & Secondary Education, and prepare for the High School Equivalency Test (GED) test. In addition, CEO provides instruction in successful job search strategies (HIRE), computer and life skills.

In 1990, our founders, who were teaching at the Denver County Jail, were approached by a Community Corrections facility director about providing educational opportunities to inmates transitioning back into the community. At that time, there were no educational services offered to metro-Denver Community Corrections clients, nor were there any local adult educational providers specializing in meeting the distinct needs of people at risk of incarceration.

In order to create a better community for everyone, it is essential that we, CEO and the community, work together to provide educational opportunities for disadvantaged people whose independence is at risk. Thank you for your commitment to education and your interest in volunteering with CEO.
