Did you know more than 188,000 kids in our region rely on free and reduced-cost meals at school? For them, summertime isn’t a fun-filled vacation. For them, no school means no meals. Become a Harvesters Hunger Champion by adopting your neighborhood. Let’s provide kids with the nutritious food they need so they can be the carefree kids they deserve to be.

How to Become a Hunger Champion:

  • Pick-up bags from Harvesters Topeka facility and deliver them to your neighbors on Saturday, July 15*.

  • On Saturday, July 22*, pick up the bags of donated food from your neighbors and bring them to Harvesters.

* Dates are flexible. If above dates don’t work for you, please call to discuss other possible dates.

Hunger Champions earn 5 hours of volunteer credit for every 50 houses they adopt plus they have the chance to earn some great prizes! Register online at www.harvesters.org/OCC . Or contact the Community Engagement team at fighthunger@harvesters.org .

Mission Statement

Harvesters--The Community Food Network feeds hungry people today and works to end hunger tomorrow.

Description

We are a regional food bank serving a 26-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. Harvesters provides food and related household products to more than 620 not-for-profit agencies including emergency food pantries, community kitchens, homeless shelters, children’s homes and others. We also offer education programs to increase community awareness of hunger and teach about good nutrition.

Harvesters' main facility is located in Kansas City, Missouri at 3801 Topping Ave. Harvesters also operates a second facility in Topeka, Kansas at 215 E. Quincy St.

Harvesters is a certified member of Feeding America, a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks. In 2011 Harvesters was Feeding America’s Food Bank of the Year. We are a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

Harvesters also is one of five regional disaster relief staging sites for Feeding America. We continually store a supply of food, water and cleaning supplies that can be sent to a disaster site on short notice.
