At Ascension Saint Mary- Chicago, care comes in many different forms. We are looking to resume visits in our facility in various departments that include outpatient and inpatient units.
Volunteers that can do pet therapy and are interested in volunteering with their pet can volunteer within the hospital and allow the presence of a therapy pet to bring great comfort to these individuals during a very trying time in their lives.
Pet Therapy Requirements
- Complete the Ascension volunteer application process and orientation.
- Must be twenty-one (21) years of age and older.
- Remain with the therapy animal during the entire therapeutic visit.
- Ensure the therapy animal does not exhibit any signs of illness, is groomed, is free of all odors and parasite free, and toileted prior to the visit.
- Have active/current animal assisted therapy insurance through a registered animal therapy organization.
- Provide documentation of therapy animal certification from an authorized animal assisted therapy organization.
- Wear hospital issued identification while on hospital campus.
