Time: 2-hour shifts, between the hours of 10:30am - 5:00pm
Volunteers ages 16+ are needed to work the tents in 2-hour shifts, between the hours of 10:30am - 5:00pm.
Come join us for an afternoon of literacy fun and games! Our literacy fun fest will be made up of three, theme-based tents:
"Ada Twist, Scientist"
STEM Lab
(elementary age)
Science, technology, engineering, and math area where children will be able to design, build, problem solve, and create projects and inventions using a variety of materials and books as resources.
"Universal Language"
Diversity Library (preschoolers, families)
Reading lounge filled with children’s books that celebrate and reflect the different cultures, heritages, languages, and diverse family structures of Alexandria families, along with story boards, storytelling kits/baskets, and pillows. It will also feature guest readers and storytelling performances.
"Babies & Books"
Under Two Area
(infants and toddlers)
Dedicated space specifically for infants and toddlers (and their parents) made up of pre- and early literacy activities such as board books, sensory games, and soft toys.
The roles are:
A) Attendant: You are assigned to a specific tent, where the duties could include setting up and/or cleaning up, monitoring the activities of that tent, helping to facilitate play, and keeping the area neat and organized.
B) Floater: Same duties as the Attendant, however, you will float between the tents, helping out where needed.
Sign up here for the time slot and tent you would like to work. You will receive a confirmation email as well as additional information as we get closer to the day’s event.
If you have any questions, please email Sol at slivingston@thereadingconnection.org.
Thank you for your participation and we look forward to seeing you soon!

About The Reading Connection
Location:
1501 Lee Highway, Suite 170, Arlington, VA 22209, US
Mission Statement
The Reading Connection improves the lives of at-risk kids and families in metro Washington, DC, by using the magic of books to inspire a passion to learn.
Description
The Reading Connection's programs start with the enjoyment kids and adults can have reading books aloud. That books can be fun may be a surprise to a kid who has never been read to outside of school and has no books of his own. The Reading Connection provides fun, reading experiences for at-risk kids and provides free books for kids to keep.
Volunteers also help with book mailing preparation, fundraising, special events, organizing book drives and website maintenance.
