The old proverb goes, "it takes a village to raise a child". We are looking for community members to be part of that village when you volunteer to assist with Waukesha County's "Parent Cafes". These "Cafes" are an innovative way of bringing parents together to have peer-facilitated conversations with the goal of strengthening families.
Volunteers will take on the role of a Table Host, where you will help facilitate discussion amongst parents at your table. You will help parents to share their own experiences; highlight their successes; create networks and relationships amongst themselves; and validate their role as a parent. Discussions focus on three topics: 1) take care of yourself, 2) being a strong parent, and 3) building strong relationships with your children.
Topics are arranged in advance, as are discussion topics. Your main duty is to encourage healthy conversation.
Cafes are held 5- 6 times yearly in the evenings. We ask volunteers to commit to minimally 4 Cafes per year to help form consistency for the parents. Dates for the remainder of 2017 are:
Tuesday October 3 from 5:45pm-7:45pm
Tuesday December 5 from 5:45-7:45 pm
Dinner is provided at all Cafes. Training is provided for all volunteers.
Please join us in strengthening our families and our community!
