Santa Fe, NM - Local citizens are banding together to tackle litter in the Santa Fe River, as part of National River Cleanup. The Santa Fe Watershed Association will conduct a river cleanup with the help of local volunteers and the Santa Fe County Firefighters Association on June 24, 2017. Volunteers will meet at Alto Park, behind the tennis courts for registration at 10am on Sunday, June 24, 2017. Please bring gloves, water shoes, and water bottles. The cleanup will last until 12pm. The Santa Fe Watershed Association is dedicated to protecting the Santa Fe River because a healthy community starts with a healthy river. "Clean and healthy rivers provide everything from clean drinking water to recreation opportunities to fish and wildlife habitat," said Andy Otto, executive director of the SFWA .



American Rivers’ National River Cleanup is a series of nationwide community-based river and stream cleanups. This popular annual event raises public awareness about the need for healthy rivers and is great opportunity for civic engagement. The Santa Fe Watershed Association will be participating along with tens of thousands of volunteers taking part in hundreds of cleanups across the country to remove trash from local waterways. "The Santa Fe Watershed Association is committed to keeping the Santa Fe River clean so we can protect and restore it for us - and future generations. Participating in a river clean-up is one way that citizens can do their part for the river we all love," said Board President, Kristina Fisher.

It is wonderful to see so many people in Santa Fe and across the country taking action to protect and restore their rivers and clean water," said Bob Irvin, President of American Rivers. "We applaud the Santa Fe Watershed Association for the work they do on behalf of the river and the community."



Volunteers will meet at Alto Park, behind the tennis courts for registration at 10am on Sunday, June 24, 2017. Please bring gloves, water shoes, and water bottles. The cleanup will last until 12pm.



From 5pm-8pm, the Santa Fe Watershed Association and the Santa Fe County Firefighters Association will be hosting the Fire & Water Fest at the Santa Fe Brewing Company. Fire & Water is a fundraiser to promote community education, advocacy, and stewardship.
