ORGANIZATION: Community Emergency Service

The CES summer program provides activities for children while waiting for their family’s turn to receive food. Some of the activities include playdough, art projects, simple jewelry making, puzzles, blocks and books. Children are free to move from one activity to another as they wish. The atmosphere is casual and inviting with children coming and going at different times. Simply sitting with children and talking and interacting while they play or do projects is key to the success of the program. Each child receives a book to keep and a snack pack when they leave.

We set up at noon and the children can participate from noon to about 2pm. Cleanup takes less than ½ an hour. The program starts on Friday, June 16 and goes to Friday, August 18. Even volunteering for one Friday would be helpful, and if you speak Spanish-that would be great!!

About Community Emergency Service

Location:

1900 11th Ave. South, Minneapolis, MN 55404, US

Mission Statement

Community Emergency Service transforms lives by serving neighbors, sharing resources and becoming community - a place where people come hungry and leave hopeful.

Description

Community Emergency Service is a multi-service non-profit organization that runs a number of food based assistance programs for Minneapolis residents. Our main programs include: Food Shelf, Meals on Wheels, Home Delivery, Bonus Friday Distribution, and East African Food Distribution.

CES is located within one of the most diverse, densely populated neighborhoods in Minneapolis; over 20,000 people live within its boundaries. 46% of families living in the Phillips neighborhood are below the federal poverty level.

At CES, we strive to serve all our neighbors in need without distinction or test. We invite support from volunteers and donors and are open to collaboration with other agencies, regardless of religious affiliation.

Will you help us move people from hunger to hope?
