The University of Oregon Libraries Special Collections and University Archives is looking for several volunteers. Special Collections and University Archives is part of the UO Libraries and is the unit that holds rare, unique, and valuable materials. The main volunteer's responsibility is to register researchers to use our materials. This entails greeting researchers, introducing or reviewing rules and regulations for the use of our materials, entering resaercher's personal information into a database, and answering the telephone. Volunteers may work on other smaller project when the Paulson Reading Room is not busy, such as transcribing diaries, searching gift books, identifying materials, etc.

Special Collections and University Archives is the primary repository for the University of Oregon''s archives, rare books, historic photographs, and one of the largest historical manuscripts collections in the Pacific Northwest. Our mission is to acquire, preserve, and make available a clearly defined set of primary sources and rare books, reflecting the written, visual, and audio history and culture of Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, and selected aspects of American and world history. Our diverse collections support all types of research, from K-12 education to international scholarship. We strive to play an active and creative role in the teaching, research, and service missions of the University.

Description

Special Collections and University Archives holds over 3,000 collections; more than a million items ranging from medieval codices and rare books to literary and historical manuscripts, university archives, original art, photographs, film, architectural drawings, and ephemera. We preserve regional history, provide curriculum support, and assist researchers in many fields.
