The importance of hospice volunteers cannot be overstated. Volunteers are commonly perecieved by hospice patients and families as members of their communities. The connections volunteers make with patients provide a feeling of security and normality for patients.
Volunteers often connect on a deeper, personal level, which provides hospice care team with insight of the patients overall well being.
Volunteers are so important to a patients well being that the federal goverment requires that at least 5% of patient care hours are provided by volunteers.
There are so many ways you can better the life of a hospice patient. Some examples are below.
- Sitting with patients to provide companionship and comforting presence
- Playing music for patients to provide a soothing and joyful atmosphere
- Reading a book
- sharing life stories
- going for a walk or observing nature together
The sky is the limit when it comes to volutneering at Brookdale Hospice. We need you in order to provide the compassionate care every patient deserves.
