Minnesota has one of the highest drowning rates for youth, specifically youth of color. The YMCA takes steps toward reducing the drowning rate by providing Safety around water programming.

Description of Volunteer Position below:

Do you enjoy the water? This may be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you! You will assist our swim instructors in providing group lessons following the YMCA of the USA Aquatics and Swim Lessons guidelines and standards. Y swim lessons are unique, in that they incorporate our values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility. As you assist our instructors, you will model your great service and safety skills, playing a key role in a positive learning experience.

Responsibilities

  • You will assist the Y swim instructor with equipment preparation prior to swim lessons and storage following swim lessons
  • You will model your great customer service skills in greeting participants and parents
  • Monitor pool activities and games during lessons
  • Help with administrative tasks related to lessons
  • Safety is first; we will ask you to follow all procedures and policies of the department, branch, and Association
