This is the day to reach out and help a neighbor who is legally blind and when you do... you will help yourself and your community even more! There's are 10 ways you can help:

  1. Read their mail;
  2. Toss the junk;
  3. Prepare a grocery list
  4. fill out their forms
  5. take them to the farmer's market
  6. visit the library
  7. attend programs at the senior center
  8. create a large print phone list
  9. be a good listener
  10. Take them for a guided walk!

Requirements to be a great volunteer include:

  • a desire to help others;

  • a pleasant demeanor;

  • a good reading/speaking voice;

  • average reading skills;

  • organizational or planning abilities;

  • a good driving record;

  • a clear criminal history;

  • two references

  • access to a car with proof of insurance;

  • a minimum of $50/100k liability and $5,000 of property damage coverage.
