This is the day to reach out and help a neighbor who is legally blind and when you do... you will help yourself and your community even more! There's are 10 ways you can help:
- Read their mail;
- Toss the junk;
- Prepare a grocery list
- fill out their forms
- take them to the farmer's market
- visit the library
- attend programs at the senior center
- create a large print phone list
- be a good listener
- Take them for a guided walk!
Requirements to be a great volunteer include:
a desire to help others;
a pleasant demeanor;
a good reading/speaking voice;
average reading skills;
organizational or planning abilities;
a good driving record;
a clear criminal history;
two references
access to a car with proof of insurance;
a minimum of $50/100k liability and $5,000 of property damage coverage.
