ORGANIZATION: Tuk Tuk for Children Ltd

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Tuk Tuk for Children (TT4C) are a registered charity working in Pursat, Cambodia. We undertake a variety of roles and programs mainly involving children or the support agencies that deal with them. We work with schools, pre schools and also run Tuk Tuk Theatre visiting local villages to bring some fun and laughter to the children. Our volunteer staff and directors receive no payment and only local Khmer people who we employ derive any income from our programs.

Recently we have rented a base we call Tukqwarters. Thee bedrooms, an office area, external kitchen and eating areas are part of it. It is where we store the Tuk Tuk, book library and undertake our many administrative tasks. There is also some accommodation for volunteers there.

If you have skills and a minimum of two weeks to spare then a trip to rural Cambodia can become one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have. As well you will be able to both indirectly and directly help the underprivileged children of Cambodia and make a real difference to their lives.

But How? Here are some of the immediate tasks we have for volunteers....

  • Our Tuk Tuk is the center of our charity. We need it to be both functional and make a statement. It already houses an independent power system and a flat screen TV but how about a pop up basket ball hoop, roof mounted water canon, shiny revolving disco ball... You get the picture.
  • Undertaking renovations and improvements to Tukquarters. This can be as simple as painting or building small things to make life there a little easier. Recently completed tasks include the creation of a wood fired pizza oven, relining a bedroom, fitting more efficient drains to bathrooms. The next planned tasks are lining the roof of our office to reduce temperature and creating a covered shade area.
  • Stimulation and beautification works around the Building Bridges for Children (BBC) school who we partner with. In recent times volunteers have painted wall murals, created collection points for recyclables and rubbish as well as creating educational imagery in classrooms.
  • Just being with the teachers and children at the places we visit allows access to English speaking foreigners and this has proven invaluable.
  • Playing with kids.
  • If your skills allow the semi formal teaching or support in classrooms may be an option.
  • As well you may like to join us on the Tuk Tuk Theatre run which is a component of Tuk Tuk for Children (TT4C). Each fortnight at 8 locations the TTT team arrive amidst laughter and cheering and begin the 90 minute visit with some games and fun. We then follow up with a brief presentation and showing part of a movie.
  • Perhaps you are skilled with digital technology and could create a record of what we do for our web page or simply write a blog to share your experiences.

There is little doubt that we could not find something to keep you occupied and as well there is such a great opportunity to experience the real life of Cambodia. Our support for volunteers includes an induction program, help with transport and accommodation and being part of a social network that makes the experience broad and rewarding.

Description

Tuk Tuk for Children (TT4C) is a small charity with big ideas. We first started out in 2015 visiting villages to show movies and aleviete some of the stress for children growing up in poverty in Cambodia. Basically we wanted to give kids back their childhood.

Fast forward to today and we have expanded into Kindergarten education with our mobile toy and book library with monthly visits to the kindergartens and teacher training workshops. This project is operated in concunction with the department of education and aligns with the Cambodian kindergarten curriculum.
