Tuk Tuk Theatre
Klassy Ko, a traditional Khmer game played with our favourite Canadian family

Tuk Tuk Theatre is a component of Tuk Tuk for Children (TT4C) an Australian registered NGO that operates out of Pursat in Cambodia. The premise behind the program is to give back some childhood to the children. Their lives are based almost solely on survival and Tuk Tuk Theatre aims to add fun and a small amount of teaching.

Each fortnight at 8 locations the team arrive amidst laughter and cheering and begin the 90-minute visit with some games fun. Using basic equipment like skipping ropes, balls, frisbees and a locally made parachute we involve the kids in fun games and activities.

Often a volunteer will do a presentation about who they are and where they come from and then part of a movie is shown on the TV screen mounted on the Tuk Tuk. At times there are educational clips about sanitation and the benefits of putting rubbish in bins.

The rewards of participating are endless and there is a definite feeling that we are able to change the lives of these kids at least for a couple of hours but hopefully also in the long term. The villages we visit are fully supportive and the elders are always consulted regarding our visits.

We would love to talk to you about participating and perhaps making this part of a broader volunteer contribution you could make. Experience has shown us that we do need to have a few basic requirements;

  • minimum stay is one month but longer periods are preferred.
  • We would ask that you create a presentation about yourself, your country or an area of interest. This is generally digitally based, is interactive and lasts about 10 minutes.
  • We are always on the lookout for new games with minimal rules, basic equipment and that are suitable for multi-ages.
  • There are no professional skills required and communication in English allows us to translate.
  • Most important...an ability to laugh and have fun with children.

TT4C are happy to assist with arranging accommodation, local transport and offer an introduction program as well as a great link to the volunteers working in the district. We are a happy team here in Pursat.

Description

Tuk Tuk for Children (TT4C) is a small charity with big ideas. We first started out in 2015 visiting villages to show movies and aleviete some of the stress for children growing up in poverty in Cambodia. Basically we wanted to give kids back their childhood.

Fast forward to today and we have expanded into Kindergarten education with our mobile toy and book library with monthly visits to the kindergartens and teacher training workshops. This project is operated in concunction with the department of education and aligns with the Cambodian kindergarten curriculum.

With your help, the sky is the limit on what we can acheive!
