Lifelong has always been an organization that stands up for communities facing discrimination and marginalization. What makes our organization unique is not our services, but how we deliver them.
We know that for someone to overcome barriers to health care, our staff needs to meet them where they are in life. Instead of just checking boxes on an intake form, we truly listen. Case managers identify what basic needs aren’t being met, whether that’s safe housing, reliable transportation to doctor’s appointments, or access to healthy food. Our kitchen cooks medically tailored meals that cater to client’s specific needs, and these are hand delivered.
Volunteer delivery drivers are the heart and soul of our food program, delivering thousands of bags of groceries as well as medically tailored meals each year to our clients. You will deliver food to the homes of our clients once a week. Routes take 45-60 minutes to complete on average, volunteers will deliver to 4-8 clients and there's no need to return to Lifelong after your route. If you have time in your day or on your way home from work to give back to the community, then this opportunity is the one for you.
Commitment: 1 shift/week for 6 months.
Qualifications: Must be 18 years or older, have a driver’s license, and a vehicle with proof of insurance. Volunteers are responsible for paying for gasoline.
Looking for a meaningful volunteer position but unable to commit regularly? Lifelong is currently seeking volunteers interested in becoming Substitute Food Delivery Drivers for the Chicken Soup Brigade Food Program. Sub drivers will be contacted when a regular driver is unable to cover a route. Sub drivers must be able to commit to at least one delivery shift per month. We email you, and if you can pick up a shift then simply respond to the email. If not, no worries! Just ignore the email.
Sounds like the right volunteer spot for you?

Lifelong is the leading community health organization serving people with chronic illnesses, including cancers, homebound seniors and HIV/AIDS, in Western Washington. We believe all people have a right to a roof over their head, healthy food to eat, and access to affordable healthcare. Lifelong delivers food, housing, and health services; collaborates with community organizations on the prevention and care of chronic disease; and advocates for effective HIV/ AIDS policy. Lifelong's goal is to keep people healthy. Simply put- we make health work.
When a person is living with a chronic illness and faced with financial hardships, getting healthy can be an overwhelming task. This struggle affects people in every corner of our community - from ambitious youth eager to start their lives but struggling to come to terms with their illness to seniors dealing with hunger and isolation.
Until they get back on their feet, we advocate to make sure the amazing people we serve receive what many of us take for granted - food, shelter, insurance, even human interaction.
Here's how we help:
For people living with a chronic illness, a nutritious meal can make a huge difference in the struggle for wellness. Our FOOD program, Chicken Soup Brigade, provides nourishment to our clients through its grocery and meal program.
When chronically ill people have a stable, safe place to live, they have a significantly better chance at improving their health. At Lifelong, we provide a variety of HOUSING options to create stable living situations for our clients.
The HEALTH of our clients is our number one priority. We help our clients get on insurance plans so they can get the care they need. We also focus on HIV prevention and education outreach, and work hard to ensure that funding for programs is maintained at the State and Federal levels.
