WHAT WILL THIS INTERNSHIP ENTAIL?

Internship projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Become an accompanier! Help Ayuda’s clients navigate the metro/bus system, go to doctor’s appointments, retrieve court documents, go to immigration court, the DMV and more!
  • Help build a budding volunteer program at Ayuda through outreach, recruitment, volunteer manual creation, managing volunteer software, creating volunteer appreciation events, etc.
  • Survey client needs with attorneys and case managers in order to match appropriate volunteers
  • Create English language, computer literacy and resume-building classes, and find appropriate volunteers to teach them
  • Coordinate and execute clothing, toy, food, school supplies and diaper drives
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts by contacting local faith-based communities, businesses, and other organizations
  • Support reception by doing intakes, making appropriate referrals and answering phone calls
  • Bring outreach materials to immigrant community spaces like mosques, churches, and cultural centers
  • Find supplies and donations to bring to women’s shelters and other support groups in the area to support domestic violence victims
  • Outreach to other DV support groups to help promote place clients
  • Research and attend outreach events, fairs, festivals and presentations where you will represent Ayuda
  • Assist in translating and interpreting for attorneys and case managers
  • Research new possibilities for grant funding for Ayuda

Description

Ayuda is the only nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia that offers a full range of immigration and family law assistance, case management, therapy, and language support for low-income immigrants from anywhere in the world. Since 1973, we have served more than 150,000 low-income immigrants access justice, heal from trauma, and overcome language isolation.
