The OKC-County Health Department offers a variety of public health internships, practicums, and volunteer experiences. As a volunteer, you will gain experience, learn from professionals, and contribute to the health and well-being of the community. We offer hands-on experience with projects that will allow you to apply what you have learned in school, gain experience quickly, build your resume, and simply serve your community.
The Total Wellness Program is a FREE weight loss and chronic disease prevention program that exists to help adults lose weight and live better. We are looking for student and community volunteers to help with our upcoming 8 week weight loss classes. Volunteers commit 2 hours a week for 8 weeks helping weigh participants, review food diaries and provide motivation for weight loss. Volunteers arrive 30 minutes before class is scheduled to start and stay 30 minutes after class is scheduled to end. This is an excellent opportunity for students to see how nutrition, public health, wellness, physical activity and lifestyle change all fit together in one program. Anyone interested in volunteering, please contact Lauren Yemane at Lauren_Yemane@occhd.org or 405-419-4122. Volunteer opportunities are available for the 8 week Summer session starting in late June 2018. We are offering 8 different class locations. Class schedule attached.
