Ever wonder what it’s like to be homeless in Milwaukee? Volunteer with us, one of Milwaukee’s only shelters for homeless women and families and find out what life in shelter is really like!
Duties : Shelter Aids work diligently alongside residents and staff to make sure everyone is taken care of and shelter is running smoothly. While interacting with all residents in a positive and engaging way, aids take initiative, work with dedication, and have a passion for serving residents with respect and care. Select your area of interest to make the greatest impact:
□ Sorting & Stocking Donations: I love keeping things organized, tidy, and accessible! Give me a list of things to do and I’ll get it done!
□ Resident and Program Support : I want to ensure all residents receive the items they need and extra programming happens smoothly! I love filling people’s needs and making sure everyone is happy.
□ Shelter Operations and Routines : I think on my feet and will keep things moving even when unexpected situations may occur.
Who : This is an individual opportunity for someone who doesn’t mind helping wherever needed, has a strong work ethic, and can commit to two semesters (seasons). Ideal for community members who want to get more involved and have an impact on the lives of Milwaukee’s Homeless, students, and human service professionals with a passion for our mission.
Commitment : Pick a 2 hour weekly shift between 9:00am-8:00pm Sunday-Saturday. Multiple shifts available. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one semester/season. Service Learning volunteers may commit to one semester/term
Qualifications : 18 years + old, passion for our mission, must be comfortable interacting with homeless adults with mental illness and addictions, as well as, children ranging from infant-18 years old. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. and able to be on their feet for long periods of time. All volunteers must complete and pass a background check before volunteering.

The mission of The Cathedral Center, Inc. is to provide a safe environment for women and families while working to end homelessness, one life at a time.
Description
The Cathedral Center, Inc. is an emergency shelter for women and families who are homeless or experiencing a housing crisis. We offer emergency shelter, case management, and workforce development services to 32 single women and 8 families per day. We target a population that is vulnerable to victimization and are one of the only agencies in Milwaukee that serves individual women and single fathers with their children. Our shelter model also enables us to keep families intact, regardless of size or gender. Located in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, we reach people who do not know where they will sleep next, who are doubled up, moving from house to house, or who have a pending eviction.
