The Center for Amazon Community Ecology is a non-profit organization that helps native artisans from the Peruvian Amazon to develop and market innovative handicrafts to create sustainable livelihoods. As a member of the Fair Trade Federation, we pay our artisan fairly and promptly and dedicate 20% of our net sales to support health, education and forest conservation in our partner communities.

We have a great opportunity to sell a wide range of hand-made Amazon crafts in our Amazon Forest Store roadshow at the Great Blue Heron Music Festival that will be held on a farm at 2361 Waits Corners Rd. in Sherman, NY from Friday, June 30 through Sunday, July 2.

We need energetic volunteers to help us at this fun and music filled event on one or more days. We most need people to help set up the booth on Thursday afternoon and evening (6/29) and Friday morning as well to pack up the booth on Sunday night and Monday morning - times marked with **. We would also like help from enthusiastic volunteers to be Amazon Ambassadors to help us sell crafts and welcome booth visitors to check out our videos and engage with our Amazon education activities during the festival. Dates, times and tasks are listed below.

We have one extra free pass per day to the festival that we can share with someone who helps us for most of the festival. All volunteers who help us for a full day or more will get a 20% discount on merchandise at our booth and a free Amazon Forest Store baseball cap as a gesture of our appreciation.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Center for Amazon Community Ecology is to promote the understanding, conservation and sustainable development of human and other biological communities in the Amazon region. Our three strategies are research, community support and education. One of our main goals is to study the ecology and develop the sustainable harvest and marketing of non-timber forest products such as fruits, fibers, resins, and oils. We also work with indigenous and other forest peoples to sustain local resources and support their communities.

Description

The main strategies for achieving our goals are research, community support, and education. This will include investigating the ecology and sustainable harvest of non-timber forest products (like resins, fruits and fibers) and assisting indigenous and other forest-based communities to manage and market them to support local development and conservation. This will require reaching out to and connecting many people and communities in the Amazon and abroad. CACE is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.
