Duties: Help connect Planned Parenthood’s patients with its important mission as the Health Center Advocacy Program Coordinator Intern! Working directly with our Public Affairs Manager, you will coordinate all aspects of internal and external health center advocacy activities for our 18 Minnesota health centers, in an effort to better connect our patients and health centers to Planned Parenthood’s advocacy work. Duties will include: managing the internal program by maintaining regular communications and coaching with staff and coordinating resources; managing advocacy volunteers at Uptown Minneapolis health center; coordinating with various departments on external advocacy efforts, including canvassing and phone banking for Women Vote 2014 efforts; and assisting the Public Affairs Manager on other tasks as needed. You can expect to develop skills in community engagement and organizing, nonprofit external affairs operations, and use of engagement software like Convio, Voter Activation Network, and the predictive dialer, all of which are easily transferable to work on political campaigns, issue advocacy, and grassroots organizing. 10 hours/week during semester. Most hours will be spent at 671 Vandalia, St. Paul, though intern must be able to travel, especially to Uptown health center (gas cards provided). Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends, but hours can be flexible with good communication. This is an unpaid internship. General Description:
Working directly with the Minnesota Public Affairs Manager, the Health Center Advocacy Program Coordinator will coordinate all aspects of internal and external health center advocacy activities for our 18 Minnesota health centers in an effort to better connect our patients and health centers to the work of Public Affairs and the mission of the organization.

Specific Duties:
* Manage internal health center advocacy program (40%)
o Maintain regular communications and coaching with health center staff to ensure advocacy is a priority and staff have the resources and support they need
o Complete data entry and thorough tracking of sign ups
* Manage volunteers at Uptown Minneapolis health center (30%)
o Recruit, train and retain volunteers during at least 70% of health center hours
o Track volunteers and hours in database, ensure all have gone through necessary security processes
* Coordinate with various departments on external health center advocacy efforts (15%)
o Organize and participate in canvasses and phone banking for Women Vote 2014 efforts.
* Assist Public Affairs Manager as needed or desired (15%)

Skills Gained:
1.Develop engagement and organizing skills through patient advocacy and volunteer engagement
2.Develop understanding of and proficiency with operations of a nonprofit external affairs department
3.Become proficient with engagement software - Convio, Voter Activation Network, predictive dialer
4.Develop transferable skills for work in political campaigns, issue advocacy and grassroots organizing Qualifications: Qualifications:
* Commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission
* Interest in the political aspect of reproductive rights
* Must be willing to take on new and different projects, including but not limited to what’s listed above
* Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
* Incredibly reliable, great attention to detail, and able to work independently

Hours & Commitment:
Public Affairs Intern should be able to volunteer at least 10 hours per week during the semester. Most of hours will be spent from our Vandalia & University Health Center, though intern must be able to travel, especially to Uptown health center (gas cards provided). Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends (advanced notice will be given). Fulfillment of hours is flexible with good communication.

Compensation:
Unpaid. College credit available per your institution’s guidelines. Work-related travel and expenses will be reimbursed.
