Invests in the future of our community by fostering enduring relationships between caring adult mentors and youth in need of academic and social support. Mentoring is a proven solution for the tough problems facing many youth in our own community. Join us in making a meaningful difference in their lives by becoming a mentor. Mentors must be 19 years of age, agree to a firm 1-year commitment to spending 2 hours a week with a youth, complete a screening process that includes background checks, attend required initial and ongoing training, have reliable transportation, and regularly communicate with the program coordinator.

Mission Statement

"we partner with others in advocating for justice and assisting those in need by providing help for today and hope for tomorrow".

Description

mission Catholic Charities from the Diocese of Stockton in conjunction with Catholic Charities USA and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention have joined forces to develop a mentoring program. The purpose of this program is to prevent delinquency, truancy, drug use, gang involvement and other high risk behavior/activities, while improving academic performance, making healthier choices and becoming positive members of society. The mentoring program will be working with at risk youth between the ages of 9-17 that live in areas of significant disadvantage in Stanislaus and San Joaquin County. The mentors will be thoroughly trained and matched with an at risk youth to develop and form a healthy relationship which requires a minimum of one year. The mentor and mentee relationship is built around meeting individually for a minimum of two hours a week and monthly recreational activities with other mentors and mentees in the program. The program also includes case management with weekly logs and any other necessary assistance which will be provided by the Youth Engagement Staff at Catholic Charities.
