WCE is an international organization with chapters around the US, Canada, Africa and Australia. It was founded in 1999 by Tim Anderson and Pam Cooney who are based in Hull, MA. WCE is "A global education and environmental nonprofit connecting more youth in developing countries to the skills, opportunities and understanding of the internet." WCE does this by providing computers and educational content to students in classrooms in developing countries around the world. It has shipped thousands of computers to 44 different developing countries and has impacted over 3.5 million children.
The Chicago Chapter is actively involved in shipping computers to classrooms in developing countries. We have shipped over 4000 computers since 2009. Most computers from Chicago go to classrooms in Latin America.
This opportunity is an opening with someone who has 10-20hrs/week to dedicate to this mission. Currently the Chicago Chapter is largely managed by one person, Jack ODonnell, who has volunteered with WCE since 2005. The goal of this posting is to diversify the roles in leadership of WCE(Chicago Chapter) with new people. It is ideal for a person with willingness to learn technology and the nonprofit management who is semi-retired or retired. This work offers very flexible hours, the opportunity to meet and work with dozens of dedicated volunteers and the ability to have an impact in the lives of thousands of children in developing conntries.
