Volunteer Board of Directors - Board Member - Fundraising-Development Expertise

Fundraising and Development skills needed in volunteer Board member.

Las Trampas supports adults with developmental disabilities in Lafayette, CA and we are searching for dedicated Board candidates with Fundraising experience.

Job Description: Fundraising-Development Professionals Needed

We’re seeking a very well connected and energetic person with fundraising experience to join our Board and to serve on our Development Committee as we’re in the midst of a Capital Campaign.

The Development Committee is responsible for building a culture of enthusiasm for fundraising on the Board and holding fellow Board members accountable for their fundraising obligation; for assisting the staff with identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of new funders; and partnering with the board and staff on the development and implementation fundraising strategies to advance our mission.

Ideally, we desire people who are passionate about our work, and understand the positive, life changing impact our donors have on the organization. This board individual should be well connected in the local community, and beyond, who can reach people who would be interested in supporting Las Trampas financially and cultivate enduring donor relationships. Key backgrounds would include folks who have served as professional fundraisers or have worked as fundraising volunteers at other organizations. Also high level backgrounds in sales, public relations, marketing, and advertising would be very beneficial.

Board Member Responsibilities:

Las Trampas is a 501(c) 3 organization that supports adults with developmental disabilities to discover their capabilities and to lead full lives in their home, at work, and in the community.

The Las Trampas Board of Directors is composed of leaders from the nonprofit and for-profit sector who are dedicated to the organization’s mission. Serving on the Las Trampas Board of Directors is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting adults with development disabilities to discover their capabilities and to lead full lives in their home, at work, and in the community.

Our board members champion the importance of exceptional board leadership and believe - as we do - that each and every organization needs a strong and effective board to fully realize its potential for good. In addition to the standard roles and responsibilities of a board member, our board members are active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and are fully engaged in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for Las Trampas to advance its mission.

Board members are expected to have financial acumen to read and understand Las Trampas’ financial statements and otherwise help the board fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities.

Board members are expected to attend 8 Board meetings per year. They are expected to read board materials in advance of board meetings and come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions.

Board members are expected to serve on one or more committees of the board and to actively participate in committee work.

Board members are expected to play an active role in securing the financial resources necessary for Las Trampas to achieve its mission. Board members are expected to leverage personal relationships and connections to help the development committee and staff identify and solicit potential funders, as well as directly invest in Las Trampas’ work by making a personal contribution each year.

Board members are expected to responsibly represent Las Trampas to their respective communities and to advocate for Las Trampas’ mission, programs, and services as appropriate.

Board terms last for two years and board members can serve unlimited consecutive terms.
